Ingredients in Resort Chef are the basic products that you purchase from your suppliers. The program retains a number of details for each ingredient such as an ingredient's name, purchase quantity/unit, cooking (or usage) unit and price.
Each ingredient can be assigned to different suppliers and different categories. This feature lets you organize your ingredients into logical groupings. Ingredients can be assigned to more than one category and/or supplier if you wish.
There is no limit to the number of ingredients that can be stored in a Resort Chef database. The only real limitation is that each individual ingredient must have a unique name. Resort Chef will not let you create a new ingredient if there is already an existing ingredient with the same name.
Viewing ingredients
Ingredient details can be viewed from the Ingredient Page in the database window. The database window lists the current 'set' of ingredients in what's called the ingredient browser list (on the left) and displays the currently selected ingredient's details in the Ingredient Page on the right. For details on how to open and navigate within this form see the topic titled Ingredient Page.
Selecting ingredients for display
You can select a sub-set of your ingredients for display with the Ingredient Selection Filter. This lets you select, say, all ingredients assigned to a particular category or supplier for display. See Selecting or Filtering Ingredients and Ingredient Selection Filter dialog for more details.
Creating/modifying ingredients
Ingredients can be created and modified with the Ingredient dialog. You launch the Ingredient dialog from buttons within the Ingredient page.
Updating ingredient prices
Resort Chef uses the purchase price stored with each ingredient to calculate recipe prices. These prices should be updated regularly to maintain accurate costing for each of the recipes maintained by the program. Ingredient prices can be updated from the Ingredient Form. See the topic titled How do I update ingredient prices? for more details.
