How and where is information stored?

Resort Bistro stores all information in Microsoft Access database files but uses the file extension .RSD. When you create a new database via the Database Wizard, Resort Bistro creates a new RSD/MDB file and initializes the file with the Company details that you entered into the Database Wizard.

 

All of your data is stored in a single RSD/MDB file.  This makes backups simple.  Using whatever backup procedures you have in place,  just backup the single RSD/MDB file and you are done.

 

Of course, Resort Bistro lets you create as many separate databases as you wish.   Just use the Database Wizard to create each new database.  You can copy data from one Resort Bistro database to another using either the Import Wizard or the Export Wizard.

 

If you are familiar with Microsoft Access, you can try your hand at creating your own custom queries and reports.

 

From time to time, you should run a Database Integrity Test on your database from within Resort Bistro.  This test will repair any corrupted data in the file, test all database records for integrity, and then compact the database file.

 

Resort Bistro also lets you create snapshots of your database.  These snapshots are like local backups of your database, taken at a particular point in time and are best performed immediately before starting an import (or similar) operation that is likely to have profound effects on your database should something go wrong during the import.

 

NOTE: Database snapshots are no substitute for proper database backups.  Snapshots place a copy of your database on the same hard drive as the database, so should that hard drive fail you will lose any snapshots you previously made along with the main database file itself.
